Grand Prix Ball 2012

It’s been a while since I updated this blog. Two reasons really. I was updating another blog but have since forgotten the login details and it’s been so manic getting the Grand Prix Ball ready and planned that it hasn’t left much time for anything else!

So… after a long few months, the British Grand Prix week was upon us and before we knew it so to was the Grand Prix Ball – our biggest event of the year! This year we were again holding the Ball at the Hurlingham club in Fulham – London. It’s the third year that this spectacular club has hosted us, and as ever they were fantastically accommodating. If you ever get the chance to go and have a look at the club then do so, as to become a member there is an 18 year waiting list!

It’s been an interesting year commercially within the F1 landscape and so we weren’t sure at the beginning of the year what lay ahead, but we planned the Ball with a great vision and set out to deliver on it. One thing I really wanted to do for 2012, was have an F1 doing a live demo during the champagne reception. When you say it out loud, that sounds crazy and unachievable, especially when you air those views on a cold January Wednesday. But it was the vision and so that’s what I set out to do. We also wanted some fantastic naturally talented artists performing alongside Eddie Jordan & The Robbers.

Moving through the year, it all began to drop into place. Sales were good, Sophie Ellis Bextor had agreed to perform at the Ball, and I had even secured the Lotus F1 team to do the live demo! I have to say though that I was nervous that the F1 car would be able to get around the tight twisty constraints of the Hurlingham and even more nervous about how loud it was going to be!

In the end it was a fantastic success, have a look at the video below.

Now all we have to do is figure out how we are going to top this years Ball for 2013! Look out too for the other Grand Prix and F1 events we are planning for later in the year.

Also I’ve recently found and fallen in love with Instagram. If you are on there follow me @johnny_mcc.
